So after a quiet funeral for the old forum, I worked tirefully to recreate the boards, bigger, badder, and with more attitude than ever. Hop on over to http://www.cornelldga.org/forums/ to keep up to date with the discussion within DGA.
Or spambots will infiltrate us once again. Either way my blood must be shed.

Looking for the nitty gritty on what happened at meeting the 1st for Fall 2007? I’ve got it for ya right here: DGA 8.29.2007 Meeting Minutes
Just a reminder: Michael Mateas, an Assistant Professor of CS at UC Santa Cruz, will be giving a talk on “expressive AI” as part of the Cornell CS department’s Colloquium. He is at the forefront of research into how to create realistic and meaningful characters in video games and other applications. As real-time graphical innovations reach a plateau, the area of AI in games will become increasingly important for creating engaging experiences in the future.
As part of his work, Michael Mateas created the experimental game Facade with Andrew Stern. If you’ve never played Facade, I heartily recommend downloading it and playing for free. It demonstrates several advanced technologies for games, such as natural language processing (you say what you want and the game understands), “drama management”, and two autonomous AI characters, Trip and Grace. You can download Façade from the following location:
http://interactivestory.net/ .
For more information on the talk, please visit:

Hope to see you there!
Hi all,
If you’re looking to learn what the DGA will be doing this coming semester, then be sure to drop in on our first meeting for the fall! We’ve moved the meeting time from Monday at 5:30 PM to Tuesday at 5:00 PM, so mark your calendar. We’ll be discussing our goal for keeping game dev strong at Cornell, organizing game company visits, and ways we can contribute to the DDR night, among other items. See you there!

EDIT: Oh, and sorry, but location is TBD… the former DGA haunt, CL3 in Uris Library, may be unavailable. Update coming soon!
EDIT, 8.26.2007: Location for the first meeting will be the Graphics Lab in Rhodes 455. Rhodes Hall is the large curved building behind Duffield on the south side of campus, across the street from the outfield side of the baseball diamond.
Ok, so sorry to lock them for now, but there’s too many spam-bots attacking the phpBB forums. We’re looking into ways to correct this issue ASAP. Until then, feel free to comment on News entries if you have a suggestion or something to say to the DGA.

The site’s been getting minor information updates as summer moves right along. As GDIAC is changing for the coming semester, the DGA is looking to help keep game design healthy at Cornell. This coming fall, here’s what we’re hoping to have coming for you:
Rhythm Games Club + Wii!: We’ll be keeping up the Wii station at this weekly event on North Campus in RPCC. Together with the DDR/Rhythm Games/”Flailing Games” club, we’re glad to offer this excellent way to unwind after a long week of classes. You don’t have to be a master dancer or guitarist (or… Wiimotist?); just brave the construction and lengthy walk to North and join us!
Game Design Speakers: With video game companies and the industry growing larger every year, sometimes we forget that there’s real, interesting people hard at work on the titles that we love to play. We’re hoping to have up to 3 speakers from various parts of the games industry come to Cornell and tell us all about their jobs, their lives, and their passion: making games.
Cornell Game Development: Even though the game courses may not be offered in Fall 2007, that’s not going to stop the students from making them anyways! We hope to encourage the forming of and communication between the various students who want to make games this coming semester.
And remember… we’re looking for motivated students to help the DGA to achieve these goals both now and in the coming semesters. Come by a weekly meeting once the semester starts to talk to us about how you would like to help (meeting time on the events page… it may change for the fall).

Those of us who are lucky enough to not have final exams can sit back and laugh. Exam season has begun, and with it, the pain and anguish of 12,000 people can be felt throughout the campus.
Ah pain. Ah anguish.
Soon to come is the summer with its various opportunities for misdeeds. On behalf of the DGA, we wish you a happy summer: game away!
In another note: Our forums seems to have been taken over by spambots. Roll fortitude to avoid being overrun please.
